Jiyou Park (b. 1996, based in New York) creates sensory experiences through interactive installations that combine technology, light, and both natural and artificial materials. At the core of her practice is a single question: what makes something feel alive, and where does that sensation come from. Rather than approaching machines as objects with inherent intelligence or spirit, Park investigates how humans come to perceive vitality and aliveness through relational engagement. For her, interaction is not a technical means but the very scene in which presence is negotiated. A background shaped by being born in Australia and raised in South Korea, along with formative experiences of personal deprivation, has cultivated a sensitivity to how different worlds meet, diverge, and at times collide. These elements form a foundational layer of her artistic direction.
