G’day! I’m Jiyou Park (b.1996), a New York–based artist creating interactive installations that merge technology with tactile experience. Born in Australia and raised in Korea, I’ve lived across different cultural contexts, which continually informs my exploration of how distinct worlds meet and form relationships.
At the core of my practice lies connection. Through interactive systems and physical computing, I integrate people’s movements and perceptions into the work itself. Relationships emerge—between people, between time and place, and between the visible and invisible—inviting audiences to engage with the subtle threads that weave us together. This interest in interconnection naturally extends into a philosophical dimension, where Buddhist thought offers metaphors and spatial models, such as Indra’s Net and temple architecture, to frame how relationships can be embodied.
These philosophical inquiries, in turn, shape my engagement with materials. I work with substances that balance the artificial and the natural—such as glass, stone, and light—investigating their physical properties and symbolic meanings. For me, materials are not just tools but active agents that create sensory encounters, transform space, and shape both the making process and the audience’s experience.
